The Priceless Woman Study

Proverbs 31:23
January 23, 2012By Pastor Wendy Williams

23Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.(KJV)

The virtuous woman’s husband was well known in the gates of the city.  He was known to have a good wife at home.  He was well respected because his wife was virtuous with strength of character.  He was cheerful, pleasant, gave wise counsel, reliable, and responsible because he had an agreeable wife at home.  He didn't sit with the other men and complain about his home situation with a scowl on his face.  His home was clean, organized, well decorated, thoroughly supplied and prosperous.  He was happy, his wife was happy, his children were happy, and their servants were happy.  He was a man of "valour,” and he had a "virtuous” wife.

The virtuous woman’s husband sits among the elders.  He has wisdom that is far beyond his years because he is strong, and his wife is strong.  All who know him understand he would not have a virtuous woman at home unless he was a man of "valour.”  A man of "valour” is a "strong” man.  He has the same strong attributes as his virtuous wife.  Remember, the word "virtue” and the word "valour” both come from the same Hebrew root word, "chayil,” in the Scriptures.  "Virtue,” and "valour” both mean the same thing…… "strong, a force, whether of men, means or other resources; an army, wealth, virtue, valor, strength: --able, activity,  army, band of men (soldiers), company, (great) forces, goods, host, might, power, riches, strength, strong, substance, train, valiant, valour, virtuous,  worthy.”

When God created man, He breathed life into his nostrils and man became a living soul.  Then God said it was not good for man to be alone.  So he caused man (Adam) to fall into a deep sleep.  Then God took a rib from Adam’s side and "made” Himself a woman.  When Adam awakened, he declared she was "woman” and named her "Eve” and said she is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh.  No wonder God would describe both the man and the woman in the same way:  a man of "valour” and a woman of "virtue.”  It was the way God created them.....to be strong together and equally yoked.  God later told man to relate to the woman "as" the weaker vessel.  God didn't say she "was" the weaker vessel, but God wanted man to deal with her tenderly.

It is God’s desire that a "virtuous woman" is married to a "man of valour" so that the two of them can remain in agreement and have dominion.  If you do not have a godly spouse in your life, pray for the manifestation. You will be praying the perfect will of God.  If you are a single woman, as you become a virtuous woman, God can bring your man of valour on the scene.  If you are a single man, you should understand the rare qualities of a virtuous woman and look for her.  If you are already married, God can change the spouse that you have into His man of valour or virtuous woman.  (Repeat the GEM FOR TODAY throughout the day)

GEM FOR TODAY:   Father, I thank you that you have created me to be strong.  I agree with Your will for my life.  I desire to use my gifts and talents for the benefit of others as I pursue my destiny and purpose to Your glory.  As I make the needed changes in my life, and I pray that Your appointed man of valour/woman of virtue manifests in my life.   (Men say) I AM A MAN OF VALOR, AND I VALUE GOD'S PRICELESS WOMAN!!! (Women say) I AM GOD'S PRICELESS WOMAN!!! In Jesus' Name, Amen

As the Proverbs 31 woman works vigorously at home serving her family, I ask God to put me in a positive position of influence, and bring honor to my family, and the community.
