The Priceless Woman Study

Proverbs 31:14
January 14, 2012By Pastor Wendy Williams

14She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. (KJV)

Solomon continues by comparing the virtuous woman to a merchant’s ship.  WOW!!!  So, let’s follow his comparison by referring to the merchant’s ship in the female gender.  A merchant’s ship brings food, provisions and goods from distant lands.  Everyone awaits her arrival, and rejoices when they see her, because her journey may have taken several months.   She may have weathered storms, attacks by pirates, and the weariness of her crew.  She may have visited many lands in search of the finest foods, spices, fragrances, linens, silks, livestock, and seeds.  She would have traded her products for other goods and raw materials that would benefit her whole region.  All of the people would have anticipated her arrival day by day, and they would have rejoiced when they saw her coming into port.  It was always great news whenever a merchant’s ship returned from her journey.

When you were a little child, can you remember how happy you were to see your mother, father, or other adults return from the grocery store with fresh food and other goods?  You ran to greet them, because you wanted to know if they brought your favorite cereal and some milk.  Maybe they brought some peanut butter or some cookies.   Possibly they even stopped by a department store and got you some new clothes or a pair of gym shoes.  That’s how everyone anticipates the virtuous woman.  They eagerly await her arrival because they know she will bring wonderful provisions.  Just like the merchant, she is skillful in bartering and trading for necessities and specialties to meet a demand.

As God’s virtuous woman, people will be glad to see you coming because they know you bring good only things.  Maybe the good food that you bring is:  sincerity of heart, a kind word, encouragement, wisdom, companionship, or a smile.  They feel safe in your presence because they know you bring peace.

You're on this journey for self discovery and self improvement. The virtuous woman is far above rubies, but some people don't know the difference between a diamond and a rhinestone.  So they can't appreciate a real "GEM" when they see one.  Whether the people around you understand God's virtuous woman or not, what changes can you make to bear good fruit and bring good food into your situation?   (Repeat the GEM FOR TODAY several times throughout the day)

GEM FOR TODAY:  (Women say) Father, You've made me a precious GEM far above rubies. I am like a merchant’s ship after a long journey, full of good fruit and good food.   People anticipate my arrival with gladness everywhere I go.   (Men say) I AM A MAN OF VALOR, AND I VALUE GOD'S PRICELESS WOMAN!!! (Women say) I AM GOD'S PRICELESS WOMAN!!! In Jesus' Name, Amen

God's multi-tasker

God have given us the ability to be multi- taskers. We take care of our families at the same time as trying to work on the next project. I thank the Lord that he's put that ability within me. I'm learning forward to more of this lesson.
Muti-taskers

As women we have been taught to be multi-taskers. We handle so much jobs, kids, households etc. You name it we handle it. Since I've been studying the virtuous women I'm learning so much on how to be what God wants me to be. Just think, there's always more to learn.

The virtuous woman is a merchant ship which supplies the needs of the family. The virtuous woman is willing vessel to bring about the supplies needed for day to day life. I realize that I am the only one that cares enough about my family to properly provide what they need. I am their merchant ship.
