Women Under Construction

Day 2
March 5, 2013By Pastor Wendy Williams

Day #2 YOU’RE A BRICK HOUSE, BABY!

When God made the woman, He built her from the natural materials in Adam’s rib. "And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” (Genesis 2:18, 21-23)

The definition of the word "woman” means "man (mankind) with a womb.”  The woman needed to have a womb so she could bear children and mankind could be fruitful and multiply. God could have used any natural substance to make the woman in the natural realm, even the same dust of the ground that He used to form the man.  God’s choice to use a rib from Adam’s side is significant for two reasons:  because the rib cage protects man’s most vital organs…the heart and lungs, and because the side of the man represents the woman’s intended position in her relationship with the man…...as a side-by-side co-equal partner.

God spared no expense when He made the woman. He used the most exclusive raw material in the earth (Adam’s rib), and He took his time with her. He skillfully crafted her so that she would be fearfully and wonderfully made. Think about that….All-Powerful, All Knowing, Eternal, Almighty God Himself could have made the woman in an instant, but He took His time to skillfully put her together.  And, He gave her a unique set of strengths, gifts & talents so she would be adaptable as man's help meet. (1) She was made instinctively to be a nurturer while the man was instinctively a protector.  (2) She was made instinctively to be a gatherer while the man was instinctively a hunter.  (3) She was made with a keen ability to see and manage details while the man was more naturally able to see the big picture and manage the whole. (4) She was made to be a multi-tasker while the man was more suited to managing fewer things at the same time.  Finally, (5) she was made to bear children.  Although instinctively suited to specific roles, either the man or the woman are able perform the roles necessary for preservation of the family, the society, and the world…..except child bearing. Child bearing is a unique function of the woman alone.

Using our example of a luxury home again, it was not made of straw, or clay or wood…..it is made of brick.  Now, imagine yourself as well-designed, well-engineered, and well-constructed luxury home.  GOD MADE YOU TO BE A BRICK HOUSE, BABY!!!  But, no matter how well a house is built, it will always need constant maintenance & repair, and it will eventually need to be renovated.  Renovaton can be uncomfortable and painstaking, but the end result is always worth the process.  And, so it is with us.  We must strive to keep ourselves in good health (spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally).  But we will eventually need to be renovated so that we will be more fruitful and enjoy God's abundant life.  Are you ready to be renovated?  (Post a comment on the Blog and repeat the following TOOL FOR TODAY several times)

TOOL FOR TODAY:  I have been fearfully and wonderfully made by God.  I instinctively possess many gifts and talents for God’s purpose.  I am unique!
